Express Entry Stream

Generalized Overview on how it Works:

  • Potential applicants will complete a profile on the online system, uploading their information and supporting documents
  • Potential applicants must qualify for at least one of the following categories: Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades Program, Canadian Experience Class, or Provincial Nominee
  • CIC will assess, recruit, and select individuals from the pooled data-bank for permanent residence in Canada. These draws will occur periodically.
  • Those with a valid job offer or Nomination Certificate will be eligible to apply for permanent residence on the next draw date.
  • Those without these documents will be ranked against others based on a points system. The highest ranked individuals will be invited to apply for permanent residence.
  • If an individual receives an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence, they upload further documents as requested for the processing to begin.
  • The processing is expected to take up to 6 months before finalization (this figure could vary depending on a number of factors)
